Mayfield Chateau

Location: Hwy 31 near intersection with Lakeshore
Rent: -
Advantages: Great apartment complex.  Very clean.  Cheap rent.  Very nice staff.

Wildwood Crossings

Location: I-65 at Lakeshore Dr. (about 10 min. from SOD)
Rent: $850/mo (2br/2ba)
Advantages: Nice, clean apartments. Large complex with very attentive staff. Not too far from school with alot of back roads to avoid the interstate if needed.

Cameron at the Summit

Location: Off Hwy 280 the apartments are located in The Summit
Rent: $720/mo (1br/1ba)
Advantages/Disadvantages: Traffic is pretty bad in the mornings and evenings. I think it is too expensive for what you get. But I always felt very safe and the maintenance people were fairly quick to respond to complaints.

Barrington on the Green

Location: Hoover, off Lorna Rd behind Sam's Club
Rent: $900/mo (2br/2ba)
Advantages/Disadvantages: Nice apartments and convient to many restaurants, shopping, etc. However, driving to and from UAB can take some time (20mins to 1 hr) and Christmas time traffic is horrible.

Magnolia Park

Location: Hoover, off Lorna Rd behind Sam's Club
Rent: -
Advantages/Disadvantages: They never come for maintenance , very bad management , I dont recommend it for anyone ,although the rent is resonable and it is very close to UAB

Park Manor

Location: Southside 5 Points
Rent: $610/mo (1br/1ba)
Advantages/Disadvantages: The location is good (10 min walk to school). Hardwood, new appliances, clean cool old-but-renovated feel. This was the nicest place that I could find in the Southside. A little noisy on the weekends. No central heat or air - bummer.

The Oaks (off of Lakeshore)

Location: about a mile or less from the Lakeshore exit off of 65 near the Walmart
Rent: $870/mo (2br/1ba, including washer/dryer and cable w/HBO)
Advantages/Disadvantages: Pool, tennis courts, pretty cheap considering space and amenities, easy parking, gated community, lots of residents/students, less than 10 min drive to dental school or hospital, right next to minimalls, right next to I-65

Redmont Gardens

Location: English Village in Mountain Brook
Rent: $720 per month/mo (1br/1ba)
Advantages/Disadvantages: Apartments are historic and have lots of charm, but are not in prime condition. Take a look before you commit so you'll know if it's for you. Rent includes water, electricity and garbage services. Locale is extremely close to campus (less than 5 miles) and traffic is minimal. Area is safe. Apartments do not have washer/dryer units or dishwashers included. They can be rented for an additional cost to the complex. Coin Laundry is available. Maintenance is thourough though not always entirely timely. Staff has always been very helpful. FYI: Other classmates have had trouble with excess fees jumping out of the woodwork when moving out.

Redmont Gardens

Location: English Village in Mountain Brook (5-10 minutes from school)
Rent: $800/mo (2br, including water, gas, electric)
Advantages/Disadvantages: Advantage: Very safe area of town. Quiet apartment complex with nice neighbors. Right next door to Joe Muggs where I studied all the time and some other nice restaurants. I used to leave for my 8am class at 7:40 which was awesome. Plenty of time to get there and park and walk to class.
Disadvantage: Apartment had no central air, dishwasher, or garbage disposal because they are old but I got used to that stuff pretty quickly and loved living there my 1st 2 years of dental school.

Berkeley Apts

Location: 2124 Highland Ave
Rent: $525/mo (1br/1ba)
Advantages/Disadvantages: advantages: close to school, modern kitchen, roof to hang out on
disadvantages: very small (studio) for the money, elevator always broke (lived on the 6th floor), not the safest neighborhood, no garbage disposal unless rates went down about $100, i don't think it's worth living there.

Chapel Hills - Houses and Townhomes

Location: Fultondale, AL
Rent: -
Advantages/Disadvantages: If you are looking to buy a house, this subdivision is about 15 min. from the SOD and on the north side of Birmingham, traffic is not bad.

Wildwood crossings

Location: On West Oxmoor off of Lakeshore drive(close to campus)
Rent: $890/mo (2br)
Advantages/Disadvantages: its a nice place to live, pools, pretty quiet, pets allowed

Chateau Orleans

Location: vestavia/mountain brook line (Cahaba Heights) off 280-takegreenvalley rd by the whole foods and its back there
Rent: $655/mo 2br/1ba
Advantages/Disadvantages: Great Location... I feel very safe and walk my dog at all hours by myself. Close to Summit, and 459 and 280/Colonade so very convenient to restaurants, shopping, target, publix, you name it. Its an older complex and pretty basic (small kitchen & bathroom) but for the area, the price is great.

The Crowne Apartments

Location: Cahaba Heights
Rent: $860 /mo 2br/2ba
Advantages/Disadvantages: Great location to more than just school
